Ante, rake and straddle

Each one changes the tree the solver builds. What moves in the ranges, and which pack matches your game.

Three ways the tree changes

An ante takes a fixed amount from every seat before the first card even moves, so the pot arrives already bigger than the blinds alone would make it. A straddle does something else: one seat, usually under the gun, posts a live bet ahead of its own turn to act, which pushes the first real decision to whoever sits behind it and changes who gets to act last before the flop. Rake sits on a third axis. It never touches a chip while the hand is still live; it comes off the pot once, at the end, out of whatever the winner would otherwise collect in full. Three separate points in the tree, three separate solves: move any one of them and the ranges on the other side move with it.

What moves under rake

Rake taken off the end of a won pot lowers the value of continuing with a hand that only wins by a little. A no-rake solution at the micros gets this wrong in a way that shows up directly in the 3-bet range: without the tax, more marginal hands look worth a 3-bet than they actually are once every pot eventually won has a slice cut from it. The big blind above calls 88.9% of the time and folds under 0.1%; apply a rake structure to that same spot and the set of hands allowed to continue barely narrows, while the frequency on the thinnest of them shrinks, trimmed by exactly the cut those hands can least afford. A 3-bet that also blocks the opponent’s strongest continuing combos earns more of its value from folding the pot right there, which is worth more once every hand that does get called back costs a cut to win.

What moves with an ante or a straddle

Both an ante and a straddle put extra money in the pot before anyone has acted on it, and money already committed makes stealing it more attractive. An ante spreads that dead money across every seat equally, so opens widen across the whole table, not only from the button. A straddle concentrates the same idea into one live bet from under the gun, which raises the cost of entering the pot for everyone acting behind it while making the straddler’s own eventual option more valuable, since they get to act last on whatever price the table settles at. A vanilla 100bb cell and a 100bb cell with a 2bb straddle need separate solves for the same reason 15bb and 100bb do: what already sits in the pot, and who acts when, both changed.

Spin & Go has no in-hand rake

A Spin & Go’s rake is a flat cut taken from the buy-in at registration, the same as most tournament formats: nothing comes out of a pot while a hand is still being played. Core Rake solves for a different mechanic entirely, a percentage taken from the pot at showdown in a cash game, capped per hand. A Spin & Go table has no version of that cut for a solve to model, so the plain Core ladder covers it, and Core Rake has nothing to add.
